My Creative Take On Life

About Margo

Hi there! My name is Margo. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved putting my creative touch on things and making special occasions memorable. Perhaps it stems from growing up in Africa where access to stores, entertainment, and technology was limited. We had to be resourceful and creative as kids for our entertainment. I remember creating fish ponds and chameleon habitats, digging for crystals, climbing fruit trees, and putting on neighborhood penny fairs. As a family we’d go on safaris, camping and fishing trips, hike up inactive volcanoes, and snorkel in the Indian Ocean. The adventures were plentiful!

Then in Germany, the Black Forest was our playground. We would go for hikes, take day trips to neighboring France and Switzerland, explore old towns, flea markets, art museums, historic sights, rivers, alps and mountain glaciers. It was there where I developed a love for fine art, which later became my focus in college back in the U.S.

Those 17 years abroad were filled with adventure and inspiration which fueled my sense of wonder and creativity, and continues to this day. No matter what job I’m doing, I am most fulfilled when I’m able to put my out-of-the-box creativity to use.

Now as a mom of two wonderful kids, my creativity goes into things like creating fairy gardens with my daughter, building train tracks with my son, hosting themed parties, painting murals and photographing events at our kids’ schools.

Our son, Matthew has autism and developmental delays which has certainly changed how we envisioned our lives to be. Though it’s hard, we are constantly learning to overcome the challenges, embrace his differences, look for the blessings, celebrate his achievements, and find ways to join him in his unique world.

I’m so grateful to be on this journey with my amazing husband Jim. He is so supportive of my big ideas and helps turn many of them into a reality. Two big endeavors have been photography and gardening – two of my favorite creative outlets. You’ll have to check out the raised vegetable beds he built for me recently.

Friends have encouraged me to share my ideas and experiences, so I thought this would be a great place to start. I hope to inspire others in their creative projects, share tips that I’ve learned along the way, and hopefully be an encouragement to those who also have a family member with special needs.

 I appreciate you stopping by!
